Why Remove an Old Stump?

Grinding stumps below ground level improves safety, prevents regrowth and makes your yard easier to maintain.

Safety Hazard

Stumps can cause trips, falls and damage to mowers or equipment

Easier Mowing

Eliminate obstacles for a smoother, cleaner mow every time.

Prevent Regrowth

Grinding stops sprouting and keeps  the stump from coming back

Improve Curb Appeal

A clean yard looks better and adds value to your Property

A Cleaner Safer, Yard starts at Ground Level

Old stumps take up usable space, interfere with mowing, and can detract from an otherwise well-maintained landscape. Martinez Tree Service uses professional equipment to grind unwanted stumps below ground level without unnecessarily disturbing the surrounding yard.

Whether the stump was left after a recent tree removal or has been sitting for years, we can help you clear the area and decide what comes next.

What Happens After Stump Grinding?

Once the stump has been ground, you will be left with a mixture of wood chips and soil. We will explain your options based on how you plan to use the area.

  • Wood Chips - The grinding process creates wood chips that may be left for use as mulch, used to help fill the opening, or hauled away when arranged in advance.

  • Filling the Area - Fresh grindings settle as they decompose. If you plan to establish grass or create a planting bed, additional topsoil may be needed.

  • Remaining Roots - Stump grinding removes the visible stump and grinds below the surface, but it does not excavate the entire underground root system. Most remaining roots naturally break down over time.

  • Replanting - You may be able to plant grass, flowers, or a garden bed in the area. Planting another tree in exactly the same location may require additional preparation because old roots remain underground.
